Abstract
This book is an updated version of the author's doctoral dissertation, On the Structure of Criminal Responsibility. The book provides a systematic analysis of the three elements of criminal responsibility, namely, criminal liability, criminal accountability and criminal culpability. Criminal liability, which defines the scope of criminal responsibility, serves as its logical premise. Accountability provides the justification for and forms the basis of criminal responsibility. Criminal culpability is the actual manifestation of criminal responsibility. In this book, the author examines each of the three components closely and offers a rich account of such a tripartite theory of criminal responsibility. As one can see from the index, much more research needs to and can be done in the fi eld of criminal responsibility . The hope is that this book will pave the way for the construction of a system of legal doctrines that includes of normative theory of constituent elements of criminal offenses, a theory of subjective wrongdoing and a theory of functional criminal liability|.
